GET TO KNOW DR. MICHAEL C SCHWARTZ

Michael C. Schwartz MD is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the prestigious NYU Langone Health Medical Center. His practice is dedicated to the care of adult and pediatric patients with orthopedic and sports medicine related injuries.


Over the years, Dr. Schwartz has spent a great deal of time treating professional, collegiate, and amateur athletes. He has served as the orthopedic team physician for the New York Islanders hockey team, the New York Dragons arena football team, and World Team Tennis. In addition, he has served as the covering orthopedist for multiple sporting events including the US Open Tennis tournament, the Buick Classic Golf tournament, the annual Empire Challenge High School Football all-star game as well as ringside physician for several boxing and mixed martial arts matches. Additionally, he has recently been the team orthopedist for Hofstra Athletics for over ten years, providing care for the athletes as well as game coverage for NCAA Division I sporting events and athletic tournaments including NCAA Men’s Lacrosse quarterfinals and the NCAA Division 1 Wrestling Championship at Madison Square Garden.


Dr. Schwartz is listed and recognized in Top Doctors of New York. He has been a member of the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine since 2007 and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons since 1997.

Dr. Schwartz is a graduate of Binghamton University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended NYU School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and served as chapter president. Following his graduation from medical school, Dr. Schwartz completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the prestigious Hospital for Joint Diseases in Manhattan. He continued his specialty training as a Sports Medicine Fellow at Temple University in Philadelphia. After his training, he was recruited to ProHEALTH in 2000.

Michael Schwartz MD is board certified in orthopedic surgery and in the subspecialty of orthopedic sports medicine. His professional expertise includes all facets of pediatric and adult sports injuries and arthroscopic surgery including ACL reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, labral repairs and other arthroscopic and open procedures related to the knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle. He is also currently involved in the latest minimally invasive techniques pertaining to the restoration and preservation of articular cartilage as well as the biologic treatment of tendon injuries including platelet rich plasma and stem cell therapies.
